David Berlo devised the SMCR model which includes source, message, channel and receiver. This was a linear model of communication. This model is based on simple human communication methods. The message which is transmitted is given much importance in this model in comparison to Shannon's Model. The thoughts originating from the sender is encoded into a message using the proper words necessary for the receiver to understand it. it is then sent through the most appropriate channel and the message is received and understood.
In Shannon and Weaver's model, the source sends the message through a channel to the receiver. This model was based upon the advent of telephones and hence is based on the telephonic conversation.
A disadvantage of this model is interference or noise i.e. barriers that prevent communication. This model is the base for machine assisted interpersonal communication.
